Opening Scene Analysis
· Establishing shot of the suburb at
night connotes a classic horror scene with a slight change of environment.
· Character’s face cannot be scene in
the dark lighting foreshadowing for a later scene in the movie.
· Silence until 1 minute into the opening
scene giving and eerie atmosphere and connoting something is building up to the
climax of the scene.
· The scene is all taken in one shot
which makes the scene seem longer and more natural and realistic like the
situation is happening rather than being filmed.
· The use diegetic and contrapuntal music
in this scene add to the overall tension of the and chilling atmosphere of the
scene as the music slowly gets louder as the car creepily approaches the character.
· The absence of sound in the beginning
creates a chilling atmosphere.
· Why is the character out in the
suburbs at the middle of the night?
· The character getting kidnapped means
that kidnap and abduction will be a major theme of the story.
· The mumbling of the character creates
an almost comedic affect to what is a very serious situation showing there is
more than just psychological horror in this film.
· The music is contrapuntal as it seems
to be very light-hearted and happy, but it is playing while a very dark and
twisted action is taking place.
· The character was only kidnapped
meaning that there is a chance he will be brought back later in the film
