What impact does it have on the production of a film, if it is produced by a large global conglomerate?
What impact does it have on the production of a film, if it is
produced by a large global conglomerate?
When a
company such as Warner Bros is in control of the production of a film The film
will have first of all a massive budget to cover the costs of the actors, CGI,
locations etc and then has a separate budget almost as big as the movies
production budget just for advertising the film. An example of this can be the
production of the film Wonder Woman which had a total budget of 120-150 million
dollars with the movie making 821.8 million USD.
As Wonder
Woman was produced by Warner Bros it is expected to have a pretty big budget as
I explained above the total budget for the production of Wonder woman was
around 120-150 million dollars and it was around the same budget for internet
and television advertisements with the television advertisements they had spent
just over 3 million USD. When a movie like wonder woman is made and it makes a
massive profit that profit can be used to fund other movies that are being made
by the same company and example of this can be Aqua man and the rest of the most
recent DCEU movies. Along with getting a big budget is that you can spend it on
various shooting locations and set design such as the beach sequence in wonder
woman where they had filmed In Palinuro in Italy this is where all of the
Themyscira scenes were filmed.
Having a
large budget also effects how much visual effects and CGI can go into any scene
that needs it such as the beach fight scene and the many slow-motion shots
throughout the whole of Wonder Woman. When doing the special effects in Wonder
Woman Patty Jenkins the director always story-boarded the scene so in case they
wanted to change something when they were visualising they could easily make
the change, and then go into the final stages of the VFX and CGI. They also
used A lot of Blue and Green screen especially in the shots where they had
large environments such as the beach fight scene and the ending fight scene
against Ares in Wonder Woman.
With the
budget Wonder Woman was given they were able to film on 70mm IMAX cameras these
are one of the biggest Cameras you can use to film a movie and get it to look
as nice as possible on an IMAX screen. IMAX cameras need extremely large rigs
to be able to manoeuvre them or you will need lots of manpower. These types of
cameras were extremely useful when it came to filming the beach fight scene as
they had a massive rig which allowed them to circle around the whole of the 900
extras that were featured in the fight scene. When filming with all these
extras they were spread over two beaches working with this many people means
that both the producer and the director will have to work together to control
and fox any issues with the filming or the choreography.
In
conclusion having a big film production company Helps dramatically by giving
the movie produced a huge budget if it is tied to a big company such as Wonder
Woman being tied to DC. This allows for the movie to already have a following
such as fans of the comics or previous media iterations of the character.
